Elevate Your Designs with Flock HTV

How to Elevate Your Designs with Flock HTV

When you want your sweatshirt sleeves to stand out, flock HTV is the perfect upgrade. Its raised, velvety texture adds dimension that smooth HTV can’t match — giving your design that eye-catching, touchable finish. And when you layer flock with other types of HTV (like metallic, glitter, or standard smooth), your design becomes even more dynamic.

This tutorial walks you through how to create a layered sleeve design using flock HTV as the bold finishing touch.

Why Use Flock in a Layered Design?

  • Texture Upgrade: Flock adds softness and depth where other HTV lies flat.

  • Visual Contrast: Pairing flock with shiny metallics, sparkly glitter, or smooth vinyl makes every layer pop.

  • Premium Look: Mimics embroidery without the time, expense, or stitching.

  • Design Flexibility: Works well for varsity-style text, logos, or accents layered on top of other vinyl.

Step 1: Cut and Weed Each Layer

  • Cut all layers separately, mirroring each design. Make sure to cut them the right size so they line up perfectly.

  • Use a sharp blade for flock since it’s thicker.

  • Weed carefully — flock weeds easily thanks to its raised fibers.

    Step 2: Prep the Sleeve

    • Insert a pressing pillow inside the sleeve to create an even surface. This is especially helpful if your sleeve has a crease on the bottom.

    • Pre-press for 3–5 seconds to remove wrinkles and moisture.

Step 3: Apply the Base Layer(s)

    • Start with your base HTV, placing it where you want the design to be.

    • Pro Tip: Press a light crease into your sleeve where you want your design, and fold your transfers in half to create a guideline. This makes it much easier to line everything up straight.

    • Press at 300°F for 4 seconds to tack it onto the fabric (settings for ThermoFlex Turbo Low Temp).

    • Peel the carrier sheet warm before moving to the next layer.

Step 4: Apply the Flock Layer

    • Place the flock HTV on top as your final layer.

    • Double check alignment to make sure it lines up how you want it.

    • Press at 311°F for 10-15 seconds with medium pressure (settings for Siser StripFlock Pro).

    Step 5: Second Press (Optional)

If your flock starts to lift after the initial press, press it a second time for about 10 seconds.

Layering flock HTV with other vinyl types creates a dimensional, professional design that stands out on sweatshirt sleeves. Smooth vinyl gives crisp shapes, metallic or glitter adds shine, and flock finishes it off with texture you can feel.

Whether it’s bold varsity text down the arm, layered logos, or textured accents, flock takes a simple sleeve design and turns it into a statement.
